Sprinkler Maintenance: The 7-Point Checklist

A seasonal walk-through keeps the system at rated uniformity – seven checks, straight from the catalog service chapter.

#CheckWhat to do
1Spray arc adjustmentRe-set arcs that children, mowers or vandals have knocked off target.
2Rotation checkWatch every rotor through a full cycle; replace any that stall with the same model/nozzle.
3Debris around headsClear accumulating grass and organic matter; on long-installed heads, lift the stem and add a short riser.
4Nozzle wearReduced radius or foggy streams mean worn nozzles – common in old systems or sandy water; swap like-for-like.
5Seal wearWater between stem and cap = worn seal ring; replace the seal or the cap assembly.
6Cracked caseLook for abnormal wet zones – impact or winter frost cracks the case; replace body (and stem if damaged).
7Screen cloggingPulled-in debris or line shrapnel clogs the under-nozzle screen; wash it, flush the lateral, and add filtration if the source is sandy.
Schedule: in cold climates check once per year at spring startup; in long-season climates, the catalog recommends at least two inspections per year.
How often should sprinkler systems be serviced?
Once a year in cold climates (spring startup), at least twice in year-round watering climates – per catalog guidance.
My rotor does not rotate – repair or replace?
First clear debris and check the screen; if the gear train is damaged, replace with the same model to keep the precipitation rate matched.
Why is one sprinkler spraying shorter than its neighbors?
Usually a clogged or worn nozzle (check the screen and nozzle orifice), or lower pressure from a partially closed valve upstream.
Market terms (live harvest, Bing, Sep 2026):
EN: sprinkler repair, sprinkler system maintenance, sprinkler head replacement, irrigation troubleshooting
DE: beregnung wartung, versenkregner warten
FR: entretien arrosage automatique
